My trip to Montreal was just after Guy Fawkes Night. Explaining this to Shanly it occurred to me how gruesome the event is. This picture is of a bonfire in our local park - you might just be able to make out a few of the couple of dozen Guys made by local kids and parents (including us). The playful, carnivalesque multiple immoliation, in effigy, of a C16th/C17th Catholic 'terrorist'...

trials and tribulations in Montreal

I had a great week in Montreal in November. I did a presentation at the Trials and Tribulations: negotiating research methods in cyberspace symposium at Concordia University. Organised by old PowerUp muckers Kelly Boudreau and Shanly Dixon, it was a focussed, lively and very stimulating couple of days. It was very well organised and the food was great. I'll dig out my notes and photos and post in more detail soon.

I also did a talk for Bart Simon's Gamecode project (on mine and Helen's Lego Star Wars study) and one on the old Circuits video for Sandra Weber's class on toys and children's culture. Also visited the Canadian Center for Architecture which has a great collection of construction toys (more anon).

it's been a while...

Time to power up PowerUp I think! I know everyone's been doing lots of interesting things, and so haven't had time to post them here. So, a late new year's resolution is to get up to date. I'll get the ball rolling...
