power up-date

The blog's been quiet of late.... I know everyone's been very busy. This said we have some earth-shattering achievements to trumpet. So, in order of importance....

1. the arrival of a new play research test subject - Ella Mae. Congratulations to Helen, Rob and Robbie. I'll post a picture as soon as I get one.

2. the arrival of Helen and Jon's baby, I mean book - Game Cultures: computer games as new media. Published by Open University and out now. I've read most of it and it's a technocultural wonder. Essential game studies reading.

3. Jason Rutter and Jo Bryce's long-awaited Understanding Digital Games (Sage) has been published and has contributions from erstwhile Power Up contributor Julian Kucklich and from Giddings and Kennedy.

4. Helen and I have completed a (Lego Star Wars based) chapter for a Melanie Swalwell and Jason Wilson edited collection on gameplay and aesthetics

5. I've submitted my thesis. Called Walkthrough: videogames and technocultural form, it will be defended next month. I'll post again if successful.

What's everyone else been up to?
